Your property tax bill is about $164 heavier this year. Council meets Tuesday to set mill rates and pass the first three readings of the tax rates bylaw — locking in a 5.7% increase that’s down from the $270 provisional figure floated at the start of budget season. Tax notices arrive in mid-to-late May, with a payment deadline of July 2, 2026. (Castanet)

Two years in, TRU’s wildfire training hub is past the concept stage. The program, built in partnership with the BC Wildfire Service, launched several new wildfire certificates last fall and has already graduated its first students — with many fire science courses running at capacity.
