Beem Credit Union has filed to foreclose on Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson’s auto dealership. The petition, filed in BC Supreme Court Thu Apr 16, alleges default on a $425,000 loan secured against the Tru Market Truck and Auto Sales property at 260 West Victoria St. and unpaid property taxes. Hamer-Jackson has said legal costs from code-of-conduct complaints left him unable to make payments. (Castanet)
Six months out from the Oct. 17 municipal election, only two mayoral candidates have declared. Hamer-Jackson says he “100 per cent” intends to run again, and two-term Coun. Mike O’Reilly announced last October. Valleyview Secondary grad Johnny Hicks stopped 29 shots as the University of Denver Pioneers beat Wisconsin 2-1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, earning him the tournament’s most outstanding player award. The new RCMP detachment is on hold while council reviews the project budget. At the Tue Apr 14 meeting, council kept the loan authorization bylaw in place but paused the approval process for the roughly $150-million build. A dirt biker was rescued from a cliff face in the Duffy Lake Mountain area after crashing around 1 pm Mon Apr 13 and falling roughly 12 feet down an embankment. The 60-year-old survived thanks to a Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP police medic who hiked several kilometres in, with BC Emergency Health Services and Kamloops Search and Rescue coordinating the extraction. BC Highway Patrol seized a lifted Dodge pickup that was clocked at 208 km/h on the Coquihalla just south of Kamloops at 7 pm on Apr 10. The driver, who had a young child in the truck, told officers he was “testing his engine.” He got a $483 excessive-speed ticket, a seven-day impound, and three years of high-risk insurance premiums.
