The prescribed burn planned for Peterson Creek Park has been delayed until fall. The City of Kamloops says unfavourable weather forced crews to postpone the planned six-hectare, low-intensity burn, which is intended to reduce interface fire risk for nearby homes by clearing sagebrush and some invasive species. The BC Wildfire Service says it is close to being fully staffed for fire season. Ravi Parmar said during a Kamloops visit that the province is hiring an additional 250 firefighters for the 2026 season and, with contractors included, expects more than 2,000 personnel again this fire season. A human-caused wildfire is burning northwest of Merritt. The BC Wildfire Service says the Inkikuh Creek fire was reported Saturday, May 2, about 75 km northwest of Merritt and 10 km north of Spences Bridge; as of Sunday afternoon, it was out of control at an estimated three hectares. (CFJC Today)
