East Kamloops water restrictions remain after repair efforts failed Tuesday. The city is moving to a more extensive repair plan Wednesday morning, while residents east of Rose Hill are being told to continue avoiding water use as reservoirs refill. The outage is affecting about 19,000 people. (Radio NL)

The Nicola Valley Food Bank says rising demand is forcing cutbacks. CFJC reports the food bank has suspended its monthly hamper program and is closing one week per month, with one staff member saying some people who used to donate are now coming in for help. (CFJC Today)

Major projects are keeping Kamloops construction numbers high. Castanet reports the city issued 203 building permits worth $106.7 million from January through March, with another $18 million added in April. (Castanet)


🏛️ City Hall

The city says its critical concrete water mains are expected to remain serviceable for decades. The finding follows an inspection program for Kamloops’ prestressed concrete cylinder pipe water mains, a type of aging infrastructure that has failed elsewhere in Canada. (Radio NL)

The city says updated parking meters and a new app are coming through May and June. Precise ParkLink will manage pay parking, monthly parking hangtags will start being replaced by licence-plate registration in June, and PayByPhone will be phased out before Parkedin replaces it in July. 🚨 Safety

A spot-sized wildfire east of Sun Peaks is being held. Castanet reports the fire at South Tsalkom Mountain, north of Chase and east of Sun Peaks, was discovered Sunday at less than a hectare and is believed to be a lightning holdover. (Castanet)

A recently retired Kamloops educator has been suspended for five days. CFJC reports the discipline followed a consent resolution agreement that found Cinderella June Winter failed to report a student’s disclosed sexual assault to a school administrator or the student’s parents in 2023.
