The mayor’s dealership foreclosure case has a June 1 court date. Castanet reports Beem Credit Union will ask a B.C. Supreme Court judge to advance foreclosure proceedings over an unpaid business loan tied to Kamloops Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson’s Tru Market Truck and Auto Sales property on West Victoria Street. Draft orders filed ahead of the hearing say the credit union wants the court to declare Hamer-Jackson and his company owe $452,794.85 as of June 1, with a June 2 redemption deadline. (Castanet)

TRU is dissolving its adventure, culinary and tourism faculty. Castanet reports the Faculty of Adventure, Culinary Arts and Tourism will be dismantled and its programs moved elsewhere inside the university as TRU looks for efficiencies after a major drop in international enrolment. Interim dean Yasmin Dean said the programs, students, faculty and operations will continue, but the structure will change. (Castanet)

A Tk’emlups riverfront hotel idea is moving through the numbers stage. Castanet reports Sc.wenwen Economic Development Corporation has hired CBRE to prepare a business plan and feasibility study for a potential hotel and meeting space southeast of the Shuswap Road roundabout near Chief Eli Larue Way. Community engagement is expected to begin in June, and the final report is expected by the end of October. (Castanet)

Communities are marking five years since Tk’emlups’ residential-school announcement. CBC reports Williams Lake First Nation held a sacred fire ceremony Monday, May 25 to mark five years since Tk’emlups te Secwépemc shared preliminary ground-penetrating radar findings at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Williams Lake First Nation Chief Willie Sellars said the ceremony was meant to provide a safe place for survivors and the wider community. (CBC)

Ward Stamer’s dashcam bill is closer to becoming law. CFJC reports the Kamloops MLA’s bill cleared third reading after privacy and regulatory concerns were addressed. The bill would require dash cameras in larger commercial vehicles, with the definition adjusted to target transport trucks; rollout and enforcement still need work between the province, Ottawa and industry. A Kamloops diver brought home three silvers for Canada. CFJC reports KGTC diver Philippe Wadsworth won silver in one-metre springboard, three-metre springboard and platform at the Junior Americas Cup in Mission Viejo, California. (CFJC Today)

Property tax notices are out; online payment may be the easier route. CFJC reports the City is warning residents about construction-related delays near City Hall and encouraging MyCity accounts, online banking or the City’s online payment system for property tax payments. (CFJC Today)


🚨 Safety

Bear season is now a garbage-and-barbecue problem. CFJC reports WildSafeBC has already received several black bear reports in Kamloops, including bears accessing unnatural food sources. Garbage, dirty barbecues, bird feeders, fruit trees and outdoor pet food can all pull wildlife into neighbourhoods. (CFJC Today)

A Kamloops family has some closure after a Thompson River drowning. Castanet reports the body of Braden Wallace-Peters, 23, has been recovered from Kamloops Lake after he went missing near Overlander Beach in July 2025. His mother thanked family, searchers, Kamloops Search and Rescue and people who helped with tips during the search. (Castanet)
