The Thompson is still running hot enough to change plans in Riverside Park. Canoe and kayak rentals were paused after six people were rescued from the river on Tuesday, June 2, when rented watercraft tipped in the current near the confluence. Operators say rentals will stay off the water for about two weeks while river levels remain high. (CFJC Today)

The Red Bridge replacement conversation is back in its public-feedback phase. The province, Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and the City of Kamloops opened a survey on Wednesday, June 3 that runs through Friday, June 26, with another in-person open house scheduled for Thursday, June 11 at Sandman Centre. Riverside Park’s bring-your-own-drink pilot is back for the season, with some notable blackout dates already on the calendar. The designated Rotary Bandshell area allows adult liquor consumption daily from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through Thursday, October 1, except during major event dates such as Friday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 18. Council wants a clearer public accounting of what is being done around shelter-area safety concerns. Kamloops councillors voted on Tuesday, June 2 to ask staff for a plain-language report on patrols, bylaw presence, outreach work and other enforcement strategies in neighbourhoods surrounding shelters, especially around Pathways on Tranquille Road.
