Thompson-Okanagan residents can weigh in on new forest-management plans. CFJC reports the province is gathering feedback on the Thompson River Watersheds and tmixʷ naqscn Forest Landscape Plans, with residents in Kamloops and several other regional communities invited to participate. A virtual open house is scheduled for Monday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (CFJC Today)
The province says Highway 5 and Shuswap Road upgrades are the Sun Rivers developer’s responsibility. Castanet reports the Ministry of Transportation says the long-promised intersection work is tied to Sun Rivers Development Corporation’s development approval, with the ministry overseeing the right-of-way work. Six “Happy to Chat” benches have been installed around TRU. Radio NL reports nursing instructor Jessica Chardon brought the idea to campus as a way to reduce loneliness and social isolation. The benches invite people to sit if they are open to someone stopping to say hello. (Radio NL)
A new Sun Peaks health association board is working to reopen the community’s shuttered clinic. Castanet reports the health centre has been closed since October 10, 2025, and council voted in May to appoint a board to help bring the facility back into use this summer. Council has approved a housing agreement for the first Columbia Precinct rental building. Castanet reports councillors voted 7-0 Tuesday to approve the agreement for the first phase of the BC Builds project at 535 and 523 Columbia St. The first building is planned for 126 units, including 26 below-market rentals, as part of a broader 250-apartment development. Kamloops Search and Rescue is helping with a missing-person search near Lake Country. CFJC reports KSAR joined Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and teams from Salmon Arm, Merritt, Vernon, Penticton and Grand Forks in the search for Mitchell Gowing, 32. He was last seen Tuesday, and his white 2008 Ford Ranger was found Friday on Pelmewash Way. (CFJC Today)
