Kamloops trampoline athlete Gavin Dodd won World Cup silver while breaking Canadian records. His double-mini routine included what CFJC reports was the world’s first triffus to back full-full. His sister Kristina also recorded a personal-best single-pass score while representing Canada at the senior World Cup. (CFJC Today)
Kamloops is planning a public celebration for Logan Stankoven’s day with the Stanley Cup. The Blazers alum will have the Cup in town on August 13. The city, Blazers and several community organizations are working through the details, with a fuller announcement expected later this month. (Castanet)
Clearwater’s emergency department is closed until 7 a.m. Sunday. It is the seventh interruption at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital in less than two weeks. Patients are being directed to Royal Inland Hospital or 100 Mile District General Hospital; life-threatening emergencies should go through 911. (Castanet)
More than 65,000 donated menstrual products are being distributed across the Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo region. The local share of United Way BC’s Period Promise campaign includes more than 13,000 products donated by Kamloops residents. 🚨 Safety
A dedicated incident management team is now based in Merritt for the Brunswick Complex response. BC Wildfire has assigned 275 firefighters, 18 helicopters, 53 pieces of heavy equipment and 74 structure-protection personnel. Cooler weather is offering a short reprieve, but hotter and windier conditions are expected from Monday. Highway 1 is open through the fire zone with lane restrictions, a 60 km/h limit and no stopping. (CFJC Today · Castanet)
Kamloops health and rescue officials are asking people to make a safety plan before heading outdoors. Their advice includes wearing a life-jacket around water, avoiding alcohol or drugs during higher-risk activities, checking conditions and making sure someone knows the plan.
