A former housing co-op could become temporary accommodation tied to Royal Inland Hospital. Council will consider rezoning the six-bedroom property Tuesday. A veterans commemorative crosswalk will be unveiled downtown Friday, July 17. The Kamloops Legion’s public ceremony starts at noon at Battle Street and Third Avenue, followed by a 1 p.m. reception and open house at the Lansdowne Street legion hall. Crown is seeking six months in jail for a Kamloops man who admitted ramming his son’s car off Highway 1. Court heard the May 2024 incident followed a family argument and ended with the BMW in a ditch. No one was seriously hurt. The defence is seeking probation and a conditional discharge; the judge reserved the sentencing decision. (Castanet)
The 100 Mile House emergency department will close during the day Monday and Tuesday. Emergency services will be unavailable from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 13 and 14. The city removed river-warning signs installed by a local water-safety advocate. Robert Griffiths said he spent about $700 on site-specific signs after two years of calling for stronger warnings and a waterfront safety audit. Hot, dry weather returns Monday as crews continue working the Brunswick Complex. Brunswick Creek has grown past 3,000 hectares, while the larger Ainslie Creek fire had not grown since Friday. Crews used the cooler weekend to work the fires’ flanks and protect nearby properties, but multiple evacuation orders and alerts remain in place. (Castanet · CFJC Today)
BC Wildfire is asking people to stop speeding, stopping and flying drones in the Highway 1 fire zone. A drone sighting near Brunswick Creek temporarily suspended airtanker and helicopter work, while drivers have also been reported stopping to film firefighting operations. (CFJC Today)
Merritt RCMP are asking for help finding Ryan Rogers. The 50-year-old was last seen June 20 and reported missing July 8. Anyone with information can call Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. (Castanet)
