The city is asking residents to prepare for several days of increasing heat. People at higher risk include older adults, those who live alone, people with limited mobility or chronic health conditions, pregnant people, infants and young children, and anyone experiencing homelessness. Jim Cotter and Dianne Barker are joining the Curl BC Hall of Fame. Cotter, a longtime fixture of the Kamloops curling scene, credited the teammates who helped shape his career. Barker, a longtime Kamloops curling official, is also part of the 2026 class. (Radio NL)

The Kamloops SPCA urgently needs more foster homes. The shelter is especially looking for placements for dogs, kittens, small animals, animals recovering from medical care and pets that need homes without other animals. Merritt’s mayor says the community has been warned about eight more potential ER closures. Michael Goetz spoke out after Sunday’s 11-hour shutdown overlapped with Bass Coast, wildfire operations and evacuees staying in the community. He said Interior Health’s local director prevented the interruption from becoming a planned 48-hour closure, but he wants an explanation for why future gaps are already anticipated. (CFJC Today)

The city will replace the aging Bunker Road water reservoir near Kenna Cartwright Park. The larger reservoir is intended to improve water flow for structure and interface firefighting as nearby development grows. Design work is beginning, with excavation expected toward the end of 2026 and construction likely to take a couple of years. (Castanet)


🚨 Safety

Firefighters expect more flare-ups on the Brunswick Complex as temperatures rise. BC Wildfire said the southeast corner of Brunswick Creek could become more active over the next 48 to 72 hours. Crews are strengthening control lines, protecting the Highway 1 corridor and working to prevent spread toward Stoyoma Mountain. Highway 1 remains open, but stopping in the fire zone is prohibited. Kamloops RCMP are trying to identify a man accused of sexually assaulting an Angry Otter Liquor employee. Police say the June 26 incident happened after a transaction. Anyone who recognizes the suspect can call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2026-20640. (KamloopsBCNow)

A man wanted on violent-offence warrants from Chilliwack and Cranbrook was arrested in Kamloops. Police say Zachary Ortloff was taken into custody during a June 24 patrol.
