Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc says its investigation at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School remains open-ended. Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir told CBC the Nation is still consulting communities whose children attended the school and seeking additional records before deciding whether excavation will take place. The site now has round-the-clock security after someone arrived with a shovel. (CBC News)
Kamloops youth soccer teams brought home three provincial medals. Soccer Quest’s under-14 boys won the Les Sinnott Memorial B-Cup, while Kamloops United teams earned silver in the under-17 girls A-Cup and bronze in the under-18 girls B-Cup. (CFJC Today)
A downtown priest has traded the traditional bicycle for an electric scooter. Reverend Dr. Kyle Norman of St. Paul’s Cathedral uses it to reach the hospital, hospice and parishioners’ homes without having to find parking. The TNRD has backed a Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc request to add about 65 hectares of the former Harper Ranch to its reserve. The parcel includes the site of a $12.5-million healing centre and elders’ lodge at 884 Miner Road. The Nation has owned the land since 1999 and hopes to finish the healing house by the end of this year. (Castanet)
About 150 Tranquille Road properties will lose water overnight Thursday. The shutdown runs from 7 p.m. to about 6 a.m. Friday between Townsend Place and McGillivray Street. The new Anderson Creek wildfire near Boston Bar grew to about 4,333 hectares in less than a day. The fire spread quickly up the hillside after it was discovered Tuesday and has joined the Brunswick Complex. Evacuation orders remain in place around Boston Bar, and Kamloops has opened an emergency reception centre at McArthur Island for eligible evacuees. (CFJC Today · City of Kamloops)
A two-day Kamloops RCMP operation led to 16 arrests. Police say officers seized more than a kilogram of drugs, two firearms, a replica firearm and 16 dangerous or prohibited weapons during the July 3 and 4 enforcement effort. (KamloopsBCNow)
