📰 News

Kamloops voters may be asked this fall whether the City should borrow for a new RCMP detachment. A committee of the whole meeting Tuesday will revisit the proposed police services building, now estimated at $160 million if construction starts in 2028. Staff say the City could seek approval through a referendum during the 2026 municipal election or use an alternative approval process early next year. (Castanet)

Tudor Village Laboratory is temporarily closed because of water damage. Interior Health says patients with booked appointments will be contacted to reschedule, and starting Monday, walk-in and booked clients will be redirected to Royal Inland Hospital, Northills Centre Laboratory or local LifeLabs sites until repairs are complete. 🏛️ What Changed

Kamloops has adopted a new airport development tax exemption. The bylaw offers up to 10 years of tax exemption on the increased assessed value of qualifying new indoor recreational or commercial buildings at the Kamloops Airport, with a minimum new improvement value of $300,000. The City says the goal is to encourage investment tied to airport users, tourism and airport-related business services. (City of Kamloops)

The City is taking an education-first approach as Level 4 drought restrictions settle in. Sprinkler use is limited under the new rules, while hand watering remains allowed with a watering can or spring-loaded hose nozzle. Utility staff say the restrictions are meant to protect essential needs, including fire protection, during high heat and drought. (Radio NL)

BC Wildfire listed Fiftynine Creek at about 29,612 hectares Saturday, with the nearby Pear Lake fire also threatening the Clinton area. (CFJC Today · Castanet)

The Ainslie Creek and Brunswick complex fires have triggered more evacuation measures near Merritt and the Fraser Canyon. Nooaitch Indian Band upgraded its main reserve to an evacuation order, Lower Nicola Indian Band issued alerts for several reserve areas, and TNRD orders and alerts remain in place west of Merritt. Evacuees needing emergency support are being directed to Kamloops. (CFJC Today · Castanet)
