The Kamloops Interior Dragon Boat Society has christened a new boat ahead of its August 8 festival. The Canadian-made boat cost $37,000 and was named Spirit of the Thompson Rivers. The society says its stability and safety performance make it well suited to local paddling. (CFJC Today)
Kamloops election officials are exploring voting options for eligible people held at the regional correctional centre. The chief election officer is speaking with KRCC’s assistant warden about possible arrangements for the October 17 municipal election. A Green Lake ranch moved 30 cattle and five horses to Kamloops as wildfire danger increased. The TNRD arranged a team to help load and transport the animals from the evacuation-order area. Thirteen bison remained at the property because they are more difficult to move safely. (Castanet)

The Pear Lake fire grew to about 103,921 hectares as thousands of properties remained under evacuation order. BC Wildfire warned that the cold front could bring shifting winds, aggressive fire behaviour and another 10 to 15 kilometres of spread. The Brunswick Complex near Boston Bar reached about 43,294 hectares. Strong winds drove growth on the southern and eastern flanks and sent smoke toward Merritt and the Highway 5 and Highway 8 corridors. BC Wildfire said there was no imminent threat to Merritt or either highway, with the closest edge still about 20 kilometres from Highway 5. (Castanet)
Crews are responding to a new wildfire east of Barriere. The fire near Chip Creek and Barriere Lakes Road was mapped at less than one hectare Saturday afternoon and was believed to be human-caused. (CFJC Today)
A Kamloops man received a 135-day sentence after stealing an RCMP bait truck. The sentence includes 100 days for taking the vehicle and 35 days for failing to report for an earlier weekend sentence. After credit for time served, 51 days remained. (Castanet)
