📰 News

Kamloops’ community-led crisis-response team is now available seven days a week. The Canadian Mental Health Association’s Crisis Response, Community Led team diverted 266 calls from police, paramedics and hospital emergency services over the past year. The service sends trained mental-health workers to non-violent crisis calls, providing a care-focused option outside the traditional emergency-response system. (The Wren)

The Kamloops Broncos are adjusting their game plan before hosting the Westshore Rebels. The young team is 0-2 after a 65-6 loss in Prince George, but head coach Jay Daniels says players have responded well to changes identified from the game. The Broncos play Saturday at Hillside Stadium. (Castanet)

Barriere will host the RCMP Musical Ride on August 21. Up to 32 officers and horses will perform choreographed cavalry drills at the North Thompson Fall Fairgrounds, following a canine-agility demonstration. The family event runs from 6 to 9 p.m.; admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children ages six to 12, and free for younger children. (Castanet)

🏛️ What Changed

The return of $800,000 in school funding means money carried over from the accounting-error response is back in individual school budgets. SD73 says the money had gone unspent in 2023-24 and was released after the district determined it was not needed for further budget balancing. The district later finished 2024-25 with a $5.1-million surplus. (Castanet)

🚨 Safety

About 230 homes are believed to have been destroyed by the Bradley Creek fire on Okanagan Indian Band reserve land. Chief Dan Wilson said roughly 30 were homes owned by Band members and about 200 belonged to non-Band members. Some residents had only minutes to evacuate as the fire moved rapidly, though crews saved the cultural immersion school, powwow grounds and daycare. Assessments are still required before individual property losses can be confirmed. (Radio NL · CFJC Today)

A motorcyclist missing for three days was found near Pinantan Lake and taken to hospital. Kamloops Search and Rescue deployed 16 members, response vehicles and UTVs Monday, with air-search support also requested. A ground searcher located the rider, and the rescue team assisted BC Emergency Health Services with the extraction. (Castanet · CFJC Today)

Crews completed another planned ignition on the Pear Lake fire’s northeast flank. The operation was intended to connect the 115,250-hectare fire to prepared control lines before winds shift back to the south. Warm, dry weather is expected to make fuels more receptive to burning, while smoke continues to restrict aircraft in some areas. (Castanet · CFJC Today)

Firefighters contained a Seymour Arm structure fire to one cabin Monday night. The Anglemont Fire Department and BC Wildfire Service remained at the Bradley Road scene to extinguish hot spots after the cabin was destroyed. (CFJC Today)
