The 100 Mile House emergency department reopens at 8 a.m. Saturday after its 37th closure of the year. The 13-hour overnight interruption began at 7 p.m. Friday; other inpatient services remained available. A small brush fire near Riverside Park was held until firefighters arrived after two city community-services officers spotted smoke. The officers saw the fire from Overlanders Bridge shortly before 11:30 a.m. Friday and used a fire extinguisher to contain it. Kamloops Fire Rescue then mopped up the area along the river; the cause remains under investigation. (Castanet)
Crews at the Pear Lake wildfire are preparing for more active fire behaviour as smoke clears and winds shift. The fire was estimated at more than 162,000 hectares Friday. Nearly 475 firefighters, 23 helicopters, 123 pieces of heavy equipment and 99 structure-protection personnel were assigned across the Big Bar Complex, while planned ignitions and guard work continued near Pavilion Mountain and Jesmond.
