Three Kamloops archers returned from Ontario with five national titles between them. Marc Britton won the men’s traditional division at the Canadian 3D Archery Championships, Katie Britton won the women’s traditional category and Miranda Sparkes topped the women’s longbow division. The three competed over four days in Muskoka earlier in August. (Castanet)

A new Kamloops Search and Rescue recruit helped a swimmer in distress near Rabbit Island. The member, who joined the team about three months ago and was at McArthur Island with her child Wednesday, recognized that the woman needed help and guided her toward shore until Kamloops Fire Rescue arrived. Fresh-food care boxes reached about 170 Clinton-area households returning after wildfire evacuations. The Clinton Resiliency Centre distributed roughly 30 to 40 pounds of food and produce to each of 150 households Saturday, while another 20 boxes went to people who could not attend. The donations came from Horsting’s Farm Market, Blackwell Dairy and other supporters. (CFJC Today)

The Jacko Lake wildfire south of Kamloops was classified as being held Saturday evening at 44 hectares. BC Wildfire Service says the suspected lightning-caused fire is projected to remain within its current perimeter under the expected conditions and available resources. Crews reported mostly low-intensity fire behaviour after making progress during the day. (CFJC Today)

A second lightning-suspected fire southeast of Kamloops was also classified as being held. The very small fire was reported Saturday along Campbell Range Road and drew a response from BC Wildfire Service and Kamloops Fire Rescue. (Castanet)

The TNRD expanded the French Bar Creek evacuation order to about 12 addressed properties. Two properties on Watson Bar Road were added Saturday as officials warned that gusty, erratic winds could increase fire behaviour. People under an order must leave immediately and should use official TNRD notices for the current boundary and evacuation instructions. (Castanet)
