A new Kamloops shelter will offer 40 beds designed around the needs of older adults experiencing homelessness. The Mustard Seed will operate Solace, a dry facility with showers, a commercial kitchen and shared spaces. Kamloops will have its first municipal slate on the ballot since 1988. The group is campaigning together on fiscal oversight, public engagement at council and changes to how the alternative approval process is used. The Ainslie Creek wildfire west of Merritt is now classified as being held after nearly two months out of control. At 67,722 hectares, the fire is not expected to spread beyond its current boundaries under forecast conditions and completed suppression work. Crews are still strengthening containment and extinguishing hot spots, while extreme drought means parts of the fire could continue burning into winter. Police are investigating Wednesday’s fire at Emterra Environmental in Valleyview as suspected arson. An officer spotted the fire near Kelly Douglas Road, where flames spread through several debris piles and trees beside the recycling facility. More than 20 firefighters brought it under control, and no injuries were reported. A suspect was arrested and later released while the investigation continues. The City is asking for information after two loose dogs seriously injured a pedestrian in Valleyview. The attack was reported around noon Wednesday near Kelly Douglas Road and Vicars Road. The dogs were described as dark-coloured, but neither they nor their owners have been identified. Residents are asked to remain alert and report loose or aggressive dogs.
