Dieter Dudy, a former Kamloops councillor and farmer, has died. Local political leaders shared condolences Tuesday, remembering Dudy for his community service and work as the founder of Thistle Farms. He served eight years on the Thompson-Nicola Regional District board while representing Kamloops city council. The main skywalk into Royal Inland Hospital has been named for the Butler family. The Joe, June and Glen Butler Skywalk honours the family’s donation and the memory of Joe Butler, who died in June 2025. Westsyde product Colton Meikle is closing in on two national junior-football receiving records. The Okanagan Sun receiver has 191 career catches, nine short of the 199-catch mark held by Andrew Busby. His 2,839 receiving yards are 270 short of Busby’s 3,109-yard record. A runner inspired by Terry Fox stopped in Kamloops during a coast-to-coast fundraising journey. James Newman joined Saturday’s five-kilometre parkrun at Riverside Park on day 111 of his route from St. John’s to Victoria. His campaign for education scholarships had raised about $223,000 toward a $250,000 goal, with the Joyce Family Foundation promising to match the total up to $250,000. (Castanet)

🏛️ What Changed

The TNRD has lifted its final evacuation alerts from this summer’s wildfire season. About 248 addressed properties received the all-clear from the Ainslie Creek alert. The regional district also lifted a French Bar Creek alert covering about five properties. Some evacuation orders and alerts issued by other governments are still in effect. If conditions change, the TNRD says an evacuation order or alert may be reinstated as necessary. (CFJC Today)

Kamloops is now accepting applications to vote by mail in the October 17 civic election. Residents and eligible non-resident property electors can apply online, print a form, pick one up at city hall or request one by email or phone. Applications submitted after October 1 require the ballot package to be collected from city hall. Completed ballots must reach the Chief Election Officer before voting closes at 8 p.m. October 17. Post-marked envelopes dated before the deadline will not be accepted if they arrive late. (City of Kamloops)

☀️ Wednesday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high near 28°C. The latest AQHI reading was 3.12, in the moderate-risk range. Thursday brings a chance of showers and a high near 23°C before a cooler mix of sun and cloud Friday.

Highway 1 construction west of Copperhead Drive brings lane closures in both directions Wednesday and Thursday. Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Drivers east of Kamloops should also expect delays of up to 15 minutes along parts of Shuswap Road and Kamloops-Shuswap Road during racing events from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
