☕ Good Morning

A quick note if you missed it Thursday: Kamloops Digest is looking for its next owner. This would be a full transfer of the newsletter, website, events directory, audience and the systems behind it, with a proper handover. If you might be interested, or know someone who would be a good fit, the details are here. You can also reply directly to this email.

📰 News

The BC SPCA is offering free pet microchips in Kamloops on September 25. The clinic at 2816 Tranquille Road will implant and register microchips from 1 to 4 p.m. Appointments are limited and registration is encouraged, although walk-ins may be accepted if space allows. The SPCA says permanent identification is especially important when wildfires and evacuations separate animals from their families. (KamloopsBCNow)

Former clients of A New Tomorrow are returning as peer navigators for people entering recovery. Graduates of the Kamloops treatment program say their own experience helps them understand when to offer support and when someone has to make the decision for themselves. The program has operated for four years and continues to face a waitlist, which former clients say can be a serious barrier when someone is ready for treatment. (CFJC Today)

Western Canada Theatre and former artistic director James MacDonald have settled a wrongful-dismissal lawsuit. MacDonald alleged he was fired without cause or notice and denied more than $67,000 in termination pay after his eight-year tenure ended in early 2025. A notice of discontinuance was filed last month, with no costs awarded to either side. The terms of the out-of-court settlement were not disclosed. (Castanet)

The Gur Singh Memorial Golf Tournament brought more than 140 golfers to Bighorn on Friday. The sold-out annual fundraiser supports the Kamloops Brain Injury Association. The organization says brain injuries are often invisible and events like this help survivors feel seen by the wider community. (CFJC Today)

🏛️ What Changed

Local election fields are now taking shape across the Thompson-Nicola. Kamloops has 29 candidates listed for council, including seven incumbents. Only two of the TNRD’s 10 electoral areas will hold director elections, while the mayors of Barriere, Logan Lake and Clinton are set to be acclaimed. Sun Peaks will also have no mayoral vote, with Jason White the only candidate listed. (CFJC Today · TNRD)

🚨 Safety

A man received a six-month jail sentence for discharging fire extinguishers at Royal Inland Hospital and a North Kamloops gas station. Eric Noble pleaded guilty to two counts of mischief connected to incidents in August and September 2025. With credit for time already served, he was ordered released and will spend 12 months on probation, including a nightly curfew and substance-use counselling. (Castanet)
