📰 News

Royal Inland Hospital has six obstetrician-gynecologists working in Kamloops, with two more expected by the end of the year. Five of the seven specialists who submitted resignations in October 2025 ultimately stayed. One new doctor started last week, while two international recruits delayed by immigration processing are expected in October and by year-end. Interior Health says complex deliveries have remained covered and no expectant mothers have had to travel elsewhere to give birth because of the staffing shortage. (Castanet)

A Kamloops-based FASD support group says the province’s planned child well-being system will leave most affected families out. Inspire Kids FASD Family Support Society of BC says children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder would qualify only if they also have an intellectual disability, excluding an estimated 75 per cent of those needing help. The group says applications will not open until sometime in 2027 and is asking the province for interim supports. (Castanet)

A full day of Kamloops election forums will stream online September 23. Three council-candidate sessions will run from 9 to 11 a.m., noon to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m., followed by the mayoral forum from 6 to 8 p.m. Every candidate seeking the same office will receive the same questions. The sessions will not have an in-person audience, but recordings will remain online through election day. (Castanet)

The Kamloops Blazers have signed 15-year-old forward Nixon Gaudet. The second-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft recorded 53 goals and 27 assists in 32 games with the Eastman Selects U15 team last season. Gaudet signed a WHL Scholarship and Development agreement after training camp. (CFJC Today)

🚨 Safety

The City has 21 days to decide whether to seek a court order to destroy the two dogs linked to the Valleyview attack. The animals were seized after Eric Dean was seriously injured on a riverside trail September 2. The City says its decision will consider the attack, advice from an animal-behaviour consultant and whether the legal test for a destruction application is met. (Castanet)
