🏛️ What Changed

Kamloops council has adopted a new three-year childcare action plan. The city has about 30 licensed full-day spaces for every 100 children, well below the federal benchmark of 59. A survey found roughly one in three responding families could not secure care for every child who needed it, with the largest gaps affecting infants and school-aged children. The plan calls for childcare to be treated as community infrastructure and for the city to make it easier for providers to find suitable locations and navigate municipal requirements. Interior Health says anyone needing emergency care during the closures should go to Royal Inland Hospital, while life-threatening emergencies should always be directed to 911. (CFJC Today)
